NASA is at it again. Combining the mundane mind meanderings of college frat boys and really cool science, NASA has done a study of the effects of drugs on spiders. Much more safe than the effects of gasoline on fire, this study is an outstanding representation of the neurological outcomes of drug use. Using the spiders web-building to observe the drugs influence researchers are able to predict what will happen to humans.

I was doing some random word searches just to keep the mind fresh and not study for finals. (Like I should be doing now). I was surfing through thefreedictionary. com, when I thought about the word 'warmonger.' I don't know why, this is just what happens with ADD. So, this is what turned up. What struck me as the most disturbing was the picture down near the Thesaurus entry. Yeah, this one:

Personally, I don't believe that responsibility and duty are a burden. They have always been a natural and reasonible part of existing. Of course maybe I have just been studying for Philosophy 110 way too much or maybe I like the idea of autonomy( which I don't think the picture really captures the sense of the word, Monty Python did it better). Maybe I'm optimistic.

Before there was Thanksgiving, before there was Halloween, there was...CHRISTMAS!! Already ever place is decorated for the winter holidays. It started as a way to encourage consumers to buy earlier and beat the holiday rush, but now it has grown into this huge enterprise to encourage overall more consumption. No one needs that much crap for Christmas. Not unless there is Boxing Day, which here in America we don't have. We really should,though, because in my humble opinion Boxing Day is outstripping Christmas in ethical and moral meaning. For those of you Americans who are ignorant of this wonderful day it is this: The day after Christmas a family will take presents and a meal (not of leftovers or of unwanted socks, bunny suits, or re-gifts) and find a less fortunate family to give it too. The gifts are left anonymously. That was the essence of Christmas, but know that essence has been pushed to the day after in European countries and seemingly forgotten in the states. I propose Boxing Day in the States. A New Year's Resolution and a Good Will Towards Mankind.

I really hate it when people state that something is impossible. For as infinite as the multi-verse is everything would have to be possible. Otherwise it would be really boring and very limited. I guess people feel better knowing that life has limits and rules that must be followed. If everything was possible in one spot in the universe, it would be crazy. Several billion beings would have to be existing in my fingernail. I have a hard enough time remembering to clip them as it is. What really bothers me though, are those who can only see two choices: black and white, right and wrong, damned and blessed. There are always more than two choices. There are not just poor choices and good choices. There are selfish choices, there are selfless choices, there is the choice to do nothing, to do everything, to just say, "Fuck This, I know what to do other than this." For example: Abortion. So far it seems that the only choices are Pro-Life and Pro-Choice. What about the other options? Yes, there is abstinence, but you're not thinking Bohemian enough. What about better birth control? How about realizing not everyone can be happy at the same time without sacrificing complete and utter joy for everyone forever and ever? This shall be continued later.

Will yesterday was the new bill, today its Congressman Foley. Old Foley has been thrown in the mix as a red herring. As if no one would notice that Bush is still trying to make himself king of the world. His bill is still pending and will still allow him to interpret the Geneva conventions and suspend writ of habeas corpus for all foriegners. Yeah.

Bush wants to pass a bill that prevents him from being accused and tried for war crimes??!!? Wait, that's not suspicious at all, it seems perfectly reasonable to rush a vote on a bill that seems so non sequitur it could be a joke. This bill is the equilivant note from the parents that says little Dubba can't play dodgeball. Who knows why Bush is afraid of the possiblity, he says he has done nothing wrong.

The Laws of War should really be reviewed and revised. They do not mention "police actions." Police Actions are military action without declaring war. So far America can get by with the claim of "police action" like the current "police action" in Iraq and Vietnam. In consideration, I am surprised Bush hasn't pointed that out and when I say Bush I mean presidential lackeys and lawyers. Its a technicality, but his reaction shows he knows he's messed up and is unwilling to try to make things right.

I am thinking that the presidential seat is becoming more of a scapegoat position than a leadership position. Maybe the only reason its worked so far, is because of the Revolutionary War and wanting to prove to the world America is mature enough to hold its own. Its like a college student moving out of the parent's house then realizing just how dependent they were. Adolescent was a huge rebellion, fighting for the right to party. Now they are calling the parents for money, support and advice. And by parents I mean the United Kingdom, everything else doesn't need to be replaced.

What is the value? A question that is answered by another: What is valued?

I was thinking earlier about the music industries current conflict with piracy. I, myself, use iTunes to "share" music and I was wondering why I felt zero guilt getting free music. Then I recalled the price of CD's. Sure I could listen to the radio, but in this area the stations play either rap or country or gospel. I like some of the genres, but not all the time nor as a personal preference. So, I use the internet to feed the inner-indie. Sure I could sign up for one of the music dealers (i.e. buy one get twelve free). However, that still requires the money I need for advanced education. Yet another value question. Why is tuition shooting for the moon?

Answered by the word for today: GREED. Prices climb so profits can climb. Why do you think they call them piggy banks? What can be done for this? Sure there could be a law that profits cannot exceed a certain percent or a tax specifically for cutting down on profits. That won't work.

Consider this: The degree of a companies or a countries greed can be measured by its product's affordability. Now, do you want to support something that has more concern for profits than its customers? There is the solution.

Don't supply the greedy, demand reasonabilty!!

Correction on the last post, the Pope was not, I repeat NOT, quoting from the Bible. My mistake. Here's what happened: A wave of protest erupted among Muslims across the globe after the pope last week implicitly linked Islam to violence and quoted a 14th-century Byzantine emperor who said innovations introduced by the Prophet Mohammed were "evil and inhuman". Thank you Herald Sun. I am neutral. Well, I'm Buddhist, I want everyone to get along and tolerate others.

When you here whining, from yourself or others, just remember Job. The man who the entire cosmos picked on. If you ever get to read Job: A Comedy of Justice, Heinlien, wait until the end and you'll see the true religon that rules us is love. Is that not the sweetest thing you have ever heard?

I bet that if all could agree on that we would solve many of this planet's problems.

Well, I tried to make the blog all fancy smchmacy, but that didn't work. It looked nice, but none of the links worked, nor could anyone comment. Well, I don't think anyone tried.

Anyway in the news: A whole hell of a lot of indifference. After admitting that Biblical text said that Islam was evil, the Pope made a public apology to the Muslim community. Saying that it wasn't his personal opinion and that he was "deeply sorry." Once again proving the old saying from Bambi "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all." Christianity and Islam are almost the same religon. If you take out specific names and dates, its the same teachings and moral values. I highly recommend that you read Islam: The Straight Path by John L. Esposito.

I was scanning the news today and found two articles of interest. First: The Marines guarding the former dictator of Iraq are praticing a new form of torture/taunting. Saddam Hussein is said to be forced to watch 'South Park:Bigger Longer and Uncut.' In which he is portrayed as the Devil's lover and many other unpleasant things. " Did you remember to bring the 'butfor'?" "What's a 'butfor'?" "For pooping, silly."

Second: Students have found a ringtone that adults cannot hear! My first thought: I feel sorry for the dogs.

I am old for my age and knowing Prairie Home Companion is just one sign of just how nostalgic my soul is. Its hard to find a quality radio show. Its hard to find any radio shows, especially with the crap that they cycle everyday. No, Prairie Home Companion is reminiscent of shows like 'The Shadow', 'Little Orphan Annie', and sometimes 'Dr. Demento'. Keillor's stories from Lake woebegone have also been the highlights of the show for me. Every single episode has made me laugh out loud. Every single episode has made me think. Every episode has made life a little bit lighter. Then the music. Oh, the music. Its bluegrass, its jazz, its swing, its folk music. True American music that makes you think of the smokey Eastern mountains, the bayous, the Ozark mountains. Yet, then the show seamlessly rocks into Guy Noir, Dusty and Lefty, and such other varieties.

Hollywood is cashing in.

Lately I have seen more and more advertisements for the new movie "World Trade Center." First of all: it seems like they didn't even try to give it a title. Granted "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is taken, but something along those lines would have been a barrel better. Just from the previews I can predict that the dialogue will be generic, the special effects nil(only because the real footage can't be used and if they tried to re-create the event it would dishonor the memory of the victims), and Hollywood is cashing in on the pulling of heart strings. They will make money, because the critics won't dare say that the movie is mediocre or, dare I say, awful. Movies like this are appearing more and more. "The Passion of the Christ" was mediocre. It wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't great. The poor critics (I bet that has never been said before) were in fear of ex-communication. At least the Pope liked it. My Catholic Youth group went to see "The Passion." The crowd was so big, the fire code was broken five times over. A couple of months later my peers were outraged that the movie didn't win picture of the year. I agree with Capri though, it was good music. I liked the subtitles too.

Seriously if our funds were focused on developing that technology, in the future humans wouldn't need to worry about weather, weapons, and...I can't think of another 'w' word other than wombat and women. And those are just prejudice. I am not Forbes nor do I have anything against microwaves. Wait, I got it: We wouldn't need to worry about weather, weapons, and 'dubya'-isms. Now there is an advancement in science for ya. I can just see the Super Bowl commercials now.

I still believe that Reagan was on the right track, he just needed to come up with a different name that wasn't under copyrights. Presentation, Presentation, Presentation. He should have just said missile deterrent. Its vague and simple (insert Bush joke here).
